Steven W. Smith, DDS

Dr. Smith was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a youth he participated in several sports such as wrestling, soccer and ballroom dancing. He also learned to play the piano which is a hobby he enjoys today. He decided that he wanted to be a dentist while he was in HighSchool. His decision was influenced by his experience getting braces. He realized how much of a difference a good smile made in his self-esteem and social life and wanted to be able to help others improve their smiles. He met his beautiful wife Kenna while in High school and was married soon thereafter. They were blessed with 3 children, Teva 19, Olivia 15, Marcus 8.

Teva is currently a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in chemistry, and also playing on the schools water polo team. He graduated from Dixon High School were he held the position of Senior class treasurer. While at Dixon, Teva was a student athlete competing in the sport of wrestling while maintaining a strong GPA.

Olivia is currently a sophomore at Dixon High School. She runs track and cross country, and plays on the schools varsity soccer team. She enjoys soccer, reading and playing the bass clarinet for her school band.

Marcus is 8 years old and currently working on his masters of Pokemon battling degree while completing his minor in Yu-Gi-Oh combat theory. He enjoys anything Pokemen, Yu-Gi-Oh, Bionacle, or Mario related. He has recently started a mission in Minecraft and will be involved with that for the foreseeable future.

Dr. Smith attended Salt Lake Community College for his associates degree and completed his dental prerequisites at the University of Utah. He attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2005 and was awarded a Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 2009. Following his graduation from dental school, he served 4 years as a Navy dentist before associating with a private practice in Leland, NC. He loves having his own practice in Sneads Ferry and helping those in the community in which he lives and has raised his family.

Dr. Smith has had the opportunity to become a member of the American Dental Association as well as the North Carolina Dental Association. He has participated in several continuing education courses and continues to participate in courses to remain current and on the cutting edge of new technologies and concepts in dentistry.

His hobbies include coaching wrestling, diving, racquetball, mountain biking, and being involved with his kids sports programs. He also enjoys gardening, playing piano and spending time with family and friends.


Mallory Kuiper, DDS

Dr. Kuiper was born and raised in Indiana. She grew up in a very small town on her parents’ grain farm. Growing up she participated in sports such as volleyball and basketball, however, she spent most of her time in the barn with her livestock. She started in 4-H at 10 years old showing pigs and later took an interest in cattle. She and her family showed Shorthorn heifers competitively at cattle shows across the country, including Fort Worth, Louisville and Denver until she began dental school. She decided on a career in dentistry while in high school after spending time in an office near her hometown. Her time at this office is where she saw the real difference that can be made in someone’s life by improving their smile.
Dr. Kuiper attended Purdue University and graduated with a bachelors degree in Health Sciences. She immediately began at Indiana University School of Dentistry and was awarded a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. She was recently married on the 4th of July and now lives in Sneads Ferry with her husband, an officer in the Marine Corps. She is excited about starting her dental career here in Sneads Ferry and getting to know people in the community. Dr. Kuiper is a member of the American Dental Association and North Carolina Dental Society. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as her fur babies, Bella and Bess.


Dental Hygienists


Sarah Marshburn RDH

Sarah was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina and raised in a loving family which includes her parents, Jamey and Traci, her older sister, Jessica and younger brother, Trent. She is a Dixon High School graduate and participated in many extracurricular activities and sports throughout her four years there. She was especially honored to be crowned Miss Dixon High School in 2011. Sarah always knew she wanted to pursue a career that involved helping people. After investigating the profession of Dental Hygiene she felt it was a wonderful way to do that Sarah attended Coastal Carolina Community College where she was one of the youngest people to complete the Dental Hygiene program and graduated in the top of her class in 2014 receiving her Associates in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene. While in school she was honored to be chosen by her instructors to receive the Colgate Oral Health Advisor STAR Award for her compassionate patient care and dedication to the hygiene profession. She is excited to be serving the community of Sneads Ferry and helping the people that live here to have healthy, confident smiles.

Some of Sarah’s favorite hobbies include spending time with her husband, Trevor, family and friends, playing with her dog, Roxanne, going to the beach, watching and participating in volleyball, basketball and baseball and singing in her church’s praise choir.


Rebecca Cavenaugh RDH

Throughout her school years, Rebecca enjoyed activities such a dance, soccer, arts and crafts, farming, hunting and water sports. She is active in her church, singing in the choir and participating in other church functions. She enjoys traveling and has been to Mexico, multiple states in the US and the Bahamas. It was during high school that Rebecca met Sidney, her husband. He is a famer and an active fireman at their local community fire department. During high school, Rebecca was in the National Honors Society and was a NC Scholar. While in her senior year she became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She participated in the art, FFA, and Allied Health Clubs.

Rebecca attended Coastal Carolina Community College. She is a Certified Dental Assistant from the class of 2013. Rebecca began her child hood dream to be a dental hygienist immediately following graduation of dental assisting. She graduated dental hygiene in May of 2015. At the dental hygiene banquet, the instructors at Coastal awarded Rebecca with the STAR award, presented by Colgate and Classmate of the year award.


Sarah Bailey RDH

Sarah was born and raised in Jacksonville, NC, where she still resides. She is a graduate of Northside High School. Sarah enjoyed playing soccer during her middle and high school years, as well as, softball. Ever since she was little, Sarah has been fascinated with the dental field and decided to enter the Dental Assisting Program at Coastal Carolina Community College as soon as she graduated high school. She graduated the Dental Assisting Program in 2008, where she worked in private practice as a Certified Dental Assistant for approximately two years. Sarah decided to return to Coastal Carolina Community College and gain her Dental Hygiene license, which she did in June of 2016. Sarah has an Associates in Applied Arts and an Associates in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene.

Time spent with family is extremely important in Sarah’s life. She met her boyfriend Mike, in 2012 and enjoys spending time with him and his daughter, Michaela. Some of her hobbies include spending time with her family, playing with their five dogs and lifting weights in the gym.

Maddie Garner

Maddie was born in Kenansville, North Carolina. She is an East Duplin High School graduate where she played 3 sports, including volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was raised by her two loving parents, Sam and Leanne Garner and also has two older brothers, Sammie and Dusty Garner. After high school, she attended Cape Fear Community College, played volleyball there, and graduated with an Associates of Arts degree. After Cape Fear, she decided to pursue her love for dentistry and helping others get the beautiful smile they've always wanted. She attended Miller-Motte College where she graduated with honors in the Associates of Applied Science: Dental Assisting program. She received her Dental Assisting National Board certifications in infection control, radiology, and general chairside and graduated with expanded functions. She is also OSHA, HIPAA, and CPR certified. Some of Maddie's favorite hobbies are watching and participating in sports, going to the beach, playing with her Pomeranian, Bella, and spending time with her family and friends.


Larissa Yonke

Larissa came to us from Southern California (the stunningly hot part), more specifically the illustrious city of Palm Springs. In the fashion of true love, she met her husband in California and, due to his career with the USMC, relocated to North Carolina in 2015. She graduated from Dental Pros in 2011 and worked for a small family practice in Twentynine Palms, California before joining our family at Smith Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. Larissa and her husband Chris have one child, Dylan, who is 7 and would prefer to spend all his time playing baseball and doing general super hero things. Aside from the humidity, they love the polar change of being on the coast and out of the desert. They enjoy exploring the coastal Carolina area and experiencing the southern hospitality. Her favorite part of being a dental assistant is utilizing her thoroughly competent yet friendly assisting style to help people feel comfortable at the dentist, and seeing them leave with a beautiful smile. In the little free time she has, Larissa loves to cook, spend time with her family, and go to the beach!


Samantha Johnson

    Samantha joined the awesome Smith Dental team in October 2016. She was born and raised in North Carolina as a true southern gal. Currently residing in Sneads Ferry with her fiance, Alan, and three children, Caleb (who is a Dixon wrestler,) Cali (who is an amazing catcher on a traveling softball team, and AJ (who lives on YouTube.) Raised by her parents Otis and Kathy, Samantha grew up playing softball and going to the beach. After graduating from high school, too long ago to count, she made the decision to go to Miller Motte and graduated with Honors from the Dental Assisting program. She is a certified dental assistant with expanded functions, OSHA, HIPPA, and CPR certifications. Some of Samantha's hobbies consist of sitting on the sidelines of  wrestling matches or softball games. In her free time to herself she enjoys going to the baech and putting her toes in the sand. She also loves spending time with her family and friends.







Katelyn Willis

Katelyn joined Smith Dental this past January 2017. She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. Currently resides on Camp Lejeune with her lovely husband and sweet fur baby, Evie. Raised by her parents, Allen and Margie Jacobs, she grew up with two olders sisters, Shawna and Andrea, and a younger brother, Andrew. Little did she know a few years after high school she would meet her husband Clinton Willis. After a few years of dating, too many field ops, one long deployment, they tied the knot twice. Katelyn and her husband were married in August 2015, and renewed their vows in front of family and friends April 2016 in her husband's home town Deridder, Louisiana. Katelyn reently graduated from Palmetto School of Career Development Dental Assisting Program in 2016. She is certified in infection control, radiology, OSHA, HIPPA, and CPR. Some of Katelyn's hobbies are watching LSU college football games, DIY projects, cooking different style dishes, going to the beach, and taking road trips.

Tiffany Peacock Garmon

Tiffany “my maiden name is better than yours” Peacock Garmon hails from the town of Marietta in the land of the Peaches, where her parents Kim and Joel, and Keith and Ginger still reside. Growing up, she cheered for her high school football and basketball teams and played travel softball. A little over a year ago, she married her middle school sweetheart Chase, who is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps. Together they embarked on the adventure that brought her into our work family, and we are so glad to have her. In true Georgia fashion, Tiffany and Chase are fun-loving, outdoorsy, gun enthusiasts with impeccable manners. Thus far, they have added one cat, lovingly named Kitty, to their family. She has five nephews and one niece, all of whom she loves more than anything in the world and spoils rotten every chance she gets. Although you won’t see her in your dental appointment with a mask over her face, she will be more than happy to help you in any other capacity.


MaryBeth Lucas

MaryBeth was born in Homestead Florida but grew up in the small town of Sneads Ferry.  Her father was in the Air Force and mom was a hair dresser in Florida. Her family relocated to the Sneads Ferry area when she was one and have been here ever since. She attended Dixon and graduated in May 2002. After graduating she attended Cape Fear Community College and acquired a license as a CNA.  MaryBeth married in 2007 to a local  named Josh who she went to school with from Kindergarten to high school. In 2008 they had a son named Ayden who attends Dixon. As a family they love to spend time outdoors, going on the boat, to the beach, and anything else that they can do together as and with family and friends. We are huge Carolina Panther fans and during football season you will not find us anywhere else but at home or if we get lucky at the stadium watching the game! MaryBeth joined the Smith dental family in October of 2016 and is very excited to embark on this new journey with all the staff.

Jaci Crossman

Jaci was born in West Chester, PA and grew up in Kingfield, Maine. After her sophomore year of high school, she moved to Topsail Island where she graduated from Dixon High. She’s played soccer and skied her entire life. You can find her either traveling, outdoors or reading. After graduating high school in 2011, she attended East Carolina University where she graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. During her time at ECU, she studied abroad in South America. Upon arrival back to ECU, they asked her to show new study abroad students around, where she met her boyfriend Jordan, who is from Scotland. After she graduated, she moved to Scotland to be with him. While she was abroad, she traveled to various different countries in Europe. After coming home from traveling in January 2017, two great things happened in her life. First, she started her career at Smith Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, and second, she received an acceptance letter to get her Masters in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from University of Greensboro and will start her online classes this summer!
